It’s a funny human condition, but when you get to your forties and fifties, many people really, truly, deeply, would like to own a Harley Davidson. The branding image of Harley Davidson is so strong that the mere thought of the genuine clause conjours up thoughts of wide open spaces and the exemption to ride,ride,ride.
Then of course there is reality – kids, bonds, job, hurricanes, rain, the oil price and a myriad other factors specifically designed to thwart our ambition to jump on that Harley and head for the hills!
My solution? Buy a ton of Harley Davidson T shirts and wear them whenever and wherever – even under your suit or blouse in those ridiculously long business meetings we all seem to have to endure.
By wearing a Harley Davidson T shirt, I can show a metaphorical finger to the world while going about the necessary but mundane business of the day. Like the Walter Mitty character, my Harley T shirt transports me to the important places I would rather be.
Every morning, as I pull the elect Harley over my head, I can hear the deep throated burbling of an idling Harley Davidson – and I know that all is well and that I am ready to face whatever the world chooses to throw astatine me.
Of course, owning the real thing sounds great but then again mundane things like fuel costs, servicing, licensing, wet weather, oil on the road to mention but a few somehow distract from the image of riding off into the sunset on a never ending strip of country road.
So I think I’ll stick to my Harley Davidson T shirt – it’s cheaper, more user friendly, and less prostrate to ruining my dreams with a dose of reality!
